Hilary Gough (she/her) was first elected to City Council in 2016 and re-elected in 2020. She is honoured to serve the diverse neighbourhoods of Ward 2 and all residents of Saskatoon.

Hilary was raised in Saskatoon and studied at the University of Saskatchewan and University of Manitoba in Winnipeg. Since returning to Saskatoon in 2012, Hilary has worked in research and student services at the University of Saskatchewan and in the not-for-profit sector as the Operations Manager for an agency promoting action on the social and economic roots of health inequities.

Hilary is passionate about equity and the wellbeing of everyone in Saskatoon. She is inspired every day by the big and small ways that residents build stronger and more vibrant communities.

Hilary is an active member of several boards and committees. She lives in the Caswell Hill neighbourhood with her partner Arlin (he/him). Together they enjoy cycling, paddling, hobby gardening, and cross-country skiing. Hilary has always been a terrible skater and a little afraid of large sledding hills but is gradually learning to enjoy both with help and inspiration from her niblings (nieces and nephews).

 

 

Strategic priorities

Community Safety and Wellbeing
- In 2016, City Council established eight priority areas with assigned Council member leads. 

As the lead for Community Safety and Wellbeing I am able to focus on some key issues such as affordable housing and rental property issues, poverty alleviation, and crime and gang issues. 

  • I also work to maintain an attentive focus on progress towards a safe and convenient mix of transportation options as well as sustainable and balanced residential development.
  • Following the leadership of community members in Ward 2 I am committed to ongoing work addressing 1) the longstanding friction between industrial and residential land uses; 2) accountability for landlords and property owners when it comes to the wellbeing of tenants, residents, and neighbourhoods through responsible property maintenance.
  • I feel strongly that the wellbeing of our community overall depends on proactive and appropriate investment by all orders of Government. As such, collaboration on the safety and wellbeing of all Saskatoon residents is a top priority of mine, understanding that communities are best served when everyone has their needs met in a sustainable and responsive way.
